At Prince of Peace, we see the middle school years as a formational season for youth to seek, ask questions, and own their faith. We would like to partner with families to embrace these years of discovery and independence and provide a path for parents to lead their youth.
Confirmation is intentional instruction and conversations about our relationship with Jesus, faith, the Bible, and Lutheran doctrine. Confirmation is parent-led and church-supported. Confirmation culminates with an opportunity for the youth to ‘confirm’ their faith publicly before the congregation.
Our hope is that Confirmation will not only provide an opportunity for the students to know what they believe, own their faith, and profess it, but also through the Confirmation journey faith conversations will be practiced in a comfortable and natural way within families and continue throughout the teen years to become a familiar interaction.
Parents and youth set aside a time to read and talk through the Catechism together. The youth set the pace. If there is a part both parents and youth know, they move through it quickly. If there is a part that leads to deeper discussion, parents and youth can take the time needed to discuss.
THE PROCESS: Confirmation can be completed in 8 weeks or 8 months. Confirmation is comprised of 7 sections with a final project. Confirmation takes around 8 hours to complete. Families can walk through the Catechism daily, weekly, or monthly depending on what works best for the family.
CONFIRMATION CROSS: The church would like to gift the Confirmation student with a cross made for them. When the family finishes a section, they receive a piece of the cross. Once all seven sections are finished, the youth will have a complete cross to hang in their room as a reminder of their faith.
CURRICULUM:
- Luther’s Small Catechism with Explanation
- Bible
CONFIRMATION HUDDLES: There will be Confirmation Huddles throughout the year. These are check-in times for confirmation families. Each Confirmation Huddle will highlight one of the seven sections. There will be a small group time for parents and youth. Confirmation Huddles are a time for parents and youth to ask faith questions that have come up along the way and a time to see how the Confirmation journey is going with other families.
Confirmation Huddles 2024-2025
CONFIRMATION COACHES: Each family will have a Confirmation Coach. This person is available to bounce ideas off, or to ask for help if the family gets stuck on a section or a question. The family can use their Confirmation Coach as many times as needed or not at all if they are rolling with it.
FINAL PROJECT: Each youth will have the opportunity to share their Statement of Faith with the congregation. The Statement of Faith is the final project and most often is a written statement but can also be a creative piece of art, video, sculpture, etc…made by the youth with an explanation of how it illustrates their faith.
CONFIRMATION SUNDAY: Each youth will get the opportunity to confirm their faith publicly for the congregation and be confirmed on Reformation Sunday. The Reformation Sunday closest to the completion date of the 7 sections and the project is the date the youth will be invited to be confirmed on.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 6:4-7
We’ll walk you through how to lead and discuss each section starting with prayer, with the following sections being covered:

Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all the day long. Psalm 25:5
